Applied Geoinformatics

The Interdepartmental MSc in “Applied Geoinformatics” is the continuation of a 17-year-long successful Postgraduate Specialization in Geoinformatics, which operated within the framework of the MSc program “Applied Geography and Spatial Planning” offered by the Department of Geography at Harokopio University. This specialization served for 17 years as a core option for high-quality postgraduate studies in this field in Greece, attracting the interest of over 800 young scientists, 170 of whom successfully completed the program after graduating from related scientific fields such as Geography, Geology, Agriculture, Forestry, Surveying, Urban and Spatial Planning, Environmental Science, Architecture, Informatics, and others.

In terms of its identity and structure, the Interdepartmental MSc in Applied Geoinformatics combines subjects related to spatial data collection, representation, analysis, and planning (such as Remote Sensing and GIS), with cutting-edge technologies associated with these fields. These include spatial databases, data visualization, knowledge representation methods and systems, expert systems, telematics, artificial intelligence, and more.

Key research areas include the modeling of natural processes and disasters, monitoring of the natural and built environment, applied spatial analysis, and the management of large volumes of geospatial data.
