Course Description
Objectives
The course aims at introducing students to the theoretical framework of themapic Cartography and at familiarizing them with relevant techniques and technologies. At the end of the course, students should be able to select the appropriate method to produce thematic maps that can clearly reveal the spatial structure of the phenomena they are supposed to represent
Content
The content of the course comprises:
– Introduction to cartographic representation.
– Fundamentals of thematic description and representation.
– Organization and analysis of quantitative data.
A limited number of lectures is followed by intensive mapping exercise in the Department’s computer lab. Lab practice familiarizes students with the appropriate mapping methods and the ways thematic maps should be composed using state of the art mapping software
Teaching & Assessment
Lectures & mapping lab practice, final exams and three practical mapping assignments throughout the course.
