Public Sector & ASEP

Geography graduates have officially recognized professional rights and can participate in ASEP (Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection) recruitment under the following categories:

  • PE Geography – main specialization with full professional recognition.
  • PE Environment – Geographers are included among the eligible degrees.
  • PE Oceanography – participation in auxiliary candidate lists.
  • PE Administration – Economics – participation allowed as all university degrees are accepted.

Relevant positions are found in:

  • Urban planning, environmental and spatial development services.
  • Environmental management agencies and protected area authorities.
  • Public organizations and ministries (e.g., Environment, Transport, Development, Education, etc.).

Education

Geographers are eligible to teach in secondary education, under the specialty PE 04.05 Geologists – Geographers, delivering the course “Geology – Geography” in lower secondary schools (Gymnasium).

They may also work in private education, such as tutoring centers, study centers, or as trainers in environmental and geographical education programs.

Private Sector

Geographers can pursue careers in:

  • Consulting firms (spatial planning, environmental management, development).
  • Study offices – conducting spatial, urban, environmental, social, or geoinformatics-related studies.
  • Technical firms and NGOs engaged in development, civil protection, climate adaptation, GIS, and natural resource management.
  • Geoinformatics companies – development and support of applications, mapping, remote sensing, and big spatial data analytics.
