Erasmus+

The Department of Geography promotes and encourages the mobility of students from all three cycles of study (undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral), as well as of teaching and administrative staff. Outgoing and incoming mobility contributes to the Department’s extroversion, fosters knowledge exchange, and aids in the development of new skills. It prepares students across all study cycles for today’s professional environment, enriches and develops the teaching experience and academic skills of faculty members, and overall enhances the professional development experiences of all departmental staff.

To achieve these goals, the Department, in collaboration with the relevant university services, ensures the availability of resources to financially support participants in mobility programs. Specifically, through the ERASMUS+ program, it aims to strengthen the mobility of students, teaching, and administrative staff to and from partner European institutions. To this end, it has signed Erasmus+ bilateral agreements with European universities at all levels of study (undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral). You can view the partner universities of the Department of Geography here.

Incoming students

The Department of Geography is a particularly popular educational destination for Erasmus+ students, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, having tripled the number of incoming students over the past five years. Here is the list of courses offered in English during the academic year 2024-2025. In addition to the courses listed, the descriptions of which are available in the Department’s curriculum, the incoming Erasmus students are also offered the courses Themes in Geography and Modern Greek as a foreign language.

Additionally, incoming students may choose most of the other available undergraduate and postgraduate courses and be assessed through project-based work, under the guidance and supervision of the instructor.

Each year, the Department of Geography also hosts a significant number of visiting professors from partner institutions who offer lectures and seminars in their fields of expertise, contributing to both the undergraduate and postgraduate curricula. In the current academic year, seven academics from an equal number of partner universities across five different countries have contributed to the Department’s teaching.

Outgoing students

The Erasmus+ program enables students of the Department to undertake part of their studies at one of 50 partner universities abroad, for a period of 3 to 12 months, with the provision of a scholarship. This experience broadens their knowledge and academic exposure in a new educational environment. Additionally, students may also complete a traineeship abroad within selected institutions, under the same program. Every year, more than 10 students participate in mobility either for study or for traineeship purposes.

Detailed information on the selection process for outgoing students and further details on the Erasmus+ program can be found in the Mobility Regulation and on the Erasmus+ Office website of the university.
